A vital part of looking for a job or indeed trying to make a job as a writer/blogger earning an income from a subject you know something about , is staying organised and keeping track of what you have done and plan to do. Re : blogs, they operate on a roll with the latest post first, so after a while it is quite easy to lose track of what you have written about and especially, any promises made to your audience to follow on from a post. This is where ways to keep a record come in very useful. Also of course if you actually get writing assignments for which you are due to meet a deadline.

As for keeping a record when  you are job hunting, if you are registered at a UK job centre you will be given a book in which to fill in your job search activities. You absolutely must take this book to your signing on sessions  because the adviser signs it off and if they don't think on checking your book that you have done enough to look for a job then you will be sanctioned and get no money.. However,  I do not care for the actual format of the book as there is not nearly enough room to write the information that you may keep about an application and it cannot easily be updated to include interview dates, responses etc. I prefer to use an online version , which also of course is much easier to share if you need to with an adviser at eg the work programme , who may keep in touch with you online and by email. If you apply for jobs via Indeed, and I do advise it as it is a round up of many other job boards all in one place, the software system allows you to update your application process and keep notes.

For us bloggers we are going to start with a Google search of Free blog planners ..the very first entry will take you to  a Pinterest site with ..well what can I say ?? enough fantastic and helpful resources to keep a blogger going for a very long time and lots to experiment with to find a method that suits.. At the moment I am working my way around Measuring Flower..with loads of links which if printed out page by page as you need them form a Blogging Binder. The idea is to print the pages, click on the link. This will open a new window that leads you to the PDF with the printable. At the bottom of the PDF, a toolbar with different options pops up upon hover. Click on the printer icon and print away...
There is even a fantastic Internet password manager...very useful.

The only difficulty is that these are printable PDF files and I have spent most of the day trying free editing and conversion files to be able to edit them with my  data using the computer...none seem to work and preserve the design of the PDF file. If, however you can afford printing ink they are lovely..I will be looking for a Word version of something similar

When writing, blogging or applying for jobs it is oh so easy to get a computer bogged down with links you have saved in bookmarks or favorites to follow up later and masses of documents. Its very easy to try to find a means of keeping a record of them, indeed backing up is vital in case anything happens to your PC, and then what happens is that you find a system you like better ...what happens if as I did yesterday, you switch to a preferred system of backing up bookmarks  and links ..and delete the first version before setting up the new one ???

I had heard that even if you have emptied the recycling bin it is possible, often although not always, but enough to make it worth a go ...to find it again using free file recovery software programmes.
One that I tried was first on the list ....Recuva , which appears to be highly recommended.....it works !!!!.

Finally for today I mentioned the benefits of using a job search organiser, very useful even if you do not have to do it for the Jobcentre and government programmes.  however, although  I  am sure many of these are excellent, they are designed  at first glance to be used online by the USA based job seeker. I will be taking a look through them to see if they can be used internationally and meanwhile...any resources that my readers use are very much welcomed. The system that I use to track my job applications is a job search log
Microsoft Office file, which  I  then upload to Google Drive.

I really hope some of these resources have been helpful....

Valerie
