Time ..how to buy it back

Most of us grow up to reach a stage in our lives where we recognize the value of time. Time is money as the saying goes and if you can get back an hour in the day then you can use that hour for something else, maybe find that job, or if you freelance, use it to do another job and make some money.

People don’t think about their personal lives this way but they should. Your time might not be worth money but it certainly has value. And it has much more value than most people give it credit for. Ultimately, time is freedom.

Time is what you use to do the things you love, to be with the people you love and to achieve personal goals and tick off some of those things on your bucket list …or just to sit and read a book or watch the television and cuddle the cat.

And just as you can in your own business, you can outsource jobs in your personal life to gain back more time. So, how can you do this? One of the first ways I can think of and use regularly is to order your groceries online and have them delivered. This means no more going to the store and then queuing at the checkout. It can be more difficult to order groceries online if you perhaps live alone and do not often spend the minimum order of £40 that most stores have for delivery, but even so you can shop online maybe once a month and then just get basics such as milk, juice and bread at a local shop, or keep them in your freezer if it is large enough.

And then there are ways you can outsource your life by teaming up with your friends. For instance, you could partner up with someone and take it in turns to shop for each other (as you’re going to the shops for yourself anyway).

How about hiring a cleaner if you can afford to do so! When you hire a cleaner, you are paying someone to do household chores that you don’t want to do and or will free up your time for other things. This can save you hours a week, while at the same time resulting in a cleaner house than you maybe could have accomplished yourself!

If you run your own business, you could even consider hiring a VA. This is a Virtual Assistant who can help you by doing any task they can do online: they will do things like making appointments, booking hotel rooms, booking meetings and more!

And then there are ways you can outsource your life by teaming up with your friends. For instance, if you want to save time shopping then you could partner up with someone and take it in turns to shop for each other (as you’re going to the shops for yourself anyway).

And lastly, if you have children, get them into the attitude of work, and have them do chores to earn their pocket money, they might even find it fun while you’ll gain more time to spend with them later and they learn that you don’t get anything for nothing!

Making money on line book review

Scott Perkins has packed a lot into a little book and it is good , though in need of an update as in the freelance section Elance and oDesk are now Upwork. Obviously in such a small volume he cannot give long lists of websites in each category but it is a very useful pointer to what options there are to making money online ...its a good starting point and worthy of time spent on an update and expanding it .

Working Online and freedom

Working Online and freedom

What do you feel gives you freedom? To me, it is time, money and choice that comes from having money, and it is the freedom not to have to work for someone else or be governed by government rules about what jobs you must apply for whether or not you can physically do them, but have to apply anyway because you have lost your disability benefit and are forced to go to the job centre and sign on to get job seekers allowance, as has happened to thousands in the UK because of welfare reform. The more time you have that is your own, the more choices you have regarding what you want to do and how you want to direct the course of your life…. And one of the best ways to free up time? It’s Working online.

This is perhaps the most common example of lifestyle management: working online so that you can start to choose when, where and how you work. Now you can decide to make your work fit in around your lifestyle instead of being forced to squeeze your life in when you can.

However, what do we do with this freedom once we have it? Some people travel the world while working online. They use the ability to work not in an office and instead work on the move. These people travel from country to country, meet new people and see incredible sights, then, they use the rest of their time to work in cafes and bars – anywhere with a power socket and an internet connection. Smart phones with excellent internet access and apps and great deals on data, make this lifestyle even easier, as indeed do tablets with their portability and again, wide selection of apps.

This is true freedom. These people can support themselves but in doing so they are also getting to climb mountains, see famous landmarks and discover other cultures. They aren’t tied to any one place and surely that’s one of the truest demonstrations of freedom. Some do it another way and have a regular job that facilitates working from home, or even if it didn't they have negotiated this with their bosses.

But the reality is that not everyone would enjoy this lifestyle. Some of us need colleagues to avoid going mad and many of us have partners or families that depend on us – we can’t afford to go travelling for days on end. However, you can make adaptions, you can use the same thing to just have more freedom at home.

How about working in cafes near you? Or perhaps there’s a beauty spot you could enjoy working in? Because there’s no commute though, you can spend an extra hour in bed. And if someone invites you out for an impromptu lunch? Then you’ll be free to take them up on that offer!

You can travel more but still come home in between to spend time with your family and with your creature comforts (like tea…) …If you have family and or carers responsibilities, these can much more easily be accommodated in your working life.

Opportunity knocks …looking at your opportunities in the New Year ~

Opportunity knocks …looking at your opportunities in the New Year ~

Many companies known today are regular household names and almost part of daily vocabulary depending on where you are living ~ Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Avon, Body shop, Kleeneze, Bettaware , Amway , 31 , Amazon and eBay, Usborne books to name a few very large and influential companies, which all started out with a simple idea or opportunity.
Many of these companies have given people who for various reasons needed to do so, the opportunity to work from home and choose their own hours, enabling them to still have an income, but fit work around health issues, caring responsibilities, studies etc.

Where would many be today if these people had not taken the opportunity or idea and had a go, but instead failed to take the risk in starting their respective business or companies. We must realise that most of them started with a simple idea or opportunity, but they had one thing in common with each other, they disregarded the fear of risk and set it aside and embraced faith, belief and optimism that just maybe something will happen IF I have a go…nothing ventured , nothing gained !!!

Not all opportunities that come along are immediately identifiable, especially if you have never heard of the name of the company, but the people who succeed are usually those who have been looking. Their minds are full of possibilitiesthat they have explored,
you might think that all this is impossible to you, but that is the key, that you think it is impossible, therefore it is. The method that all great leaders and successful business entrepreneurs have in common is that they think and have productive positive thoughts certainly most of the time.

Initially a thought may start as a fledgling idea, for your own business or joining an opportunity that looks reputable and profitable.  Something at least fairly simple, but as you ponder more over it, seeing it from every angle it begins to take shape and have deeper meaning, leading to where you can explore it further, jot it down or sketch it on a pad, tablet or computer, and it can eventually emerge into anopportunity for growth and success.

So are you looking for opportunity to change your life or your current situation? Are you sick of never having enough money to do whatever it is you desire to do? Then opportunity is waiting for you every day. It may be in the shape of a thought, a business opportunity or a partnership, buying and selling articles on online auctions like eBay, or unearthing an old dream or desire that you’ve carried for years.

Whatever it may be, once you start to actively think positively about what it is you really want to do, then you can accomplish anything.

So as soon as you can, put the kettle on, get comfortable and start thinking of exactly who you really would like to become. See it in your imagination, feel it, taste it and sense it and then allow yourself to decide that this is really you, and GO FOR IT.
