Between the devil and the deep blue sea

Between leaving school , university or college and about twenty you had the benefits and appearance of youth and the optimism that goes with it,but little or no expertise...just plenty of enthusiasm !!

At thirty you felt your experience....knew you had it and had confidence in it,however could not create the leap from one " job title" to another IE transfer skills. ..that hackneyed phrase 'transferable skills'

Maybe you have at different ages, even more than once, had to try and do a new job while not getting the pay you were used to till you proved yourself, i.e. starting all over again.

At 40, you might have been feeling pretty smug and secure, at the top of your tree ..but it was an illusion and came tumbling down

At 50 plus, you may still be in your game, not necessarily unemployed, however you wish to move. you're either on the brink of being laid off or you see the writing on the wall,. Perhaps, like myself as a nursery nurse no longer fit enough to do that work, the work you have done maybe for years and expected to retire in. Or you cannot imagine trying to do what you have been doing for twenty years or more in a physically demanding job now that people are being expected to work to a greater age and the image of seventy year old nurses and teachers is quite something to imagine or you have been searching for months and cannot get anywhere near a chance of a job...

What options do people have or think of to stay in work with so many lay offs and people having to work until almost seventy and probably eventually well into their seventies before getting a pension ?
