Article directories and other ways to earn

Do writers still use article directories for SEO? When I first began as a writer I heard about article and blog directories all the time on Google and spent hours submitting my blog and articles to them. However, Social media seemed to take over, first Facebook, then Twitter and LinkedIn and Google+ and others such as Pinterest. They are not just one page either, each community has groups and pages and communities and taking advantage of all the ones beneficial to your niche is a full time job. Indeed, some will even pay others to do it, a good earner for freelancers.

With people increasingly using the internet for information, the demand for information based articles in various niches grows and providing that information is a profitable business. Ways to make money are not limited to writing articles on a blog and monetizing it. We live in a world of instant gratification and an increasingly popular Google search for ways to make money is Get paid to answer questions. In a way, the original version of this is the still very popular doing online surveys. However, while there are many reputable paying survey sites out there that you can sign up with, it can take a very long time to reach the payment threshold. Pay for each survey can be very small and many sites pay in points that have to be converted, at a very low rate to cash. It can take some time to build up a really profitable home business, or to get a job and in the meantime people are increasingly looking at building up a portfolio of smaller, micro earning opportunities …. micro jobs. Indeed, every freelancer is advised to have more than one iron in the fire …

There are many sites with lists of reputable paid surveys and the best way to find them is to Google best paid survey sites and spend some time going through the listings or go straight to Annika’s , one of the best work from home sites with many categories in list format.

However, while it takes time to build up an income from it, article writing and blogging is still and will continue to be a good way to make a career from home and in time a full time income, Ideal for older and or disabled people needing to work. There is a lot of opportunity for polishing up your writing skills and getting paid, but this will not happen if what you write is not seen. There are many ways to distribute your articles and certainly Social media has taken over in a very big way with lots of opportunities, but article directories still have their place. People do still use article directories to find information and what you as a writer are aiming for is developing your online presence and your brand, be it personal or for your company and to get readers and business from those readers.

When you write an article, you are writing to inform and or educate and to influence and persuade your readers, you want them to be customers, whether that be to buy your product or to just keep reading what you write on your blog. An example of a good and engaging blog is the one written by my friend the author Rhonda Partin-Sharp, the aim is to sell her book The Blood Moon Sealed My Fate, but it is also a blog about mental health and religious recovery, writing on such issues as those borderline personality disorder and those who have suffered religious abuse. If whatever you write does not inform, educate, influence or persuade or indeed entertain if it is meant to do so, then people will stop reading because they will lose interest.

Wherever you share your articles can help you to get links back to your blog or website, learn how to use keywords well and learn what they are for your niche. Remember too that it is also about just writing good quality material and not worrying about back links, but just about being seen by experts and other high quality writers in your field. Blogging is a community rather than a competition, the best way to build a blog is to follow and comment on other blogs.

When writing, start with a plan for your article and try to plot that what you say will do what you intend it to. It is easy to think that all that really matters is getting links back to your site but if you do submit to article directories you will find that they vary on the requirements for what they will accept, but article directories with your article placed in the right category are certainly still very helpful as a way to get readers and help your SEO.
